In 1995 I signed up as an Independent ACN Rep thinking I could turn an expense (our monthly telephone bill, into a recurring income. ACN offered a wide range of services including ACN Local Calling, Long Distance and some nice technologically advanced products as well. However, shortly thereafter I found Cognigen, which offered the basic telephone service that I needed for less cost per minute, with no Rep signup fee, no monthly fees, a free website and back office, and no annual renewal fee. So I was already in profit with Cognigen on the very first product sale to myself. With ACN I would have to make a certain number of sales just to recover the initial signup fee and break even on the ongoing recurring costs. Therefore, being a business-minded person I cancelled my ACN Rep status within a few months because I could not in good conscience recruit others into ACN knowing full well they could become a Rep in Cognigen, save money on LD telephone, including opportunity to earn as a Rep, for free.

There are many places online where you can find ACN Leads. Just Google "ACN leads" and you'll see over 1.5 million organic listings. Some lead brokers on Google offer free ACN leads so you could theoretically try them first. But to my knowledge ACN policy prohibits buying Leads - so check with ACN policy first.

The ACN product line consists of digital phone service, local and long distance service plans, wireless phone plans, and internet services. With the internet services you can choose between dial-up or high-speed dsl. To help provide quality with their wireless plans, they created a partnership with two of the top wireless carriers.

When evaluating any opportunity don't forget to include the high costs of buying leads if that is the primary advertising method being touted. In addition there will likely be a high drop out rate as new members join and come to realize they cannot afford the time and money it costs to effectively manage leads. The older a lead gets the less valuable and as soon as someone else signs them up your investment in that lead is likely lost. Also it is well known that most leads are generated from offering people something for free and unscrupulous lead brokers on Google may sell and resell the same leads dozens of times.

Buying and Using Leads, if done incorrectly, can make the difference between losing money, breaking even, or earning a small profit. Over 95% of people who start a home based business will fail. The experience top five percent uually already have a giant list to market to, or teams of people in place who will follow into their new venture and bring teams along with them. Thus the Gurus on top can fill multiple levels deep in a matter of days or weeks, break records, and even create extra streams of income for themselves by selling leads to their new downline. This type of lead selling behavior should serve as a warning sign. If the upline truly wanted to help the downline they would offer leads free or at cost perhaps to anyone willing to work them.

Success as an ACN Representative is determined by each individual's experience, knowlege, and specific efforts. Not all ACN Independent Representatives make a profit. Profit is the universal term that signifies whether a business is successful or not. Without prfit no business can continue to keep running indefinitely. At some point, without profit, a business must fail.

Some MLM leaders still advocate making a list of 100 family, friends, and acquaintances or using the 3 foot rule to bug everyone you meet to join your opportunity! Others will tell you to buy postcards or use other expensive snail mail methods to advertise regularly. You and your team can easily spend hundreds, or even thousands of dollars on ACN Leads and never come close to recouping those costs.
